Another competition I have take part in is the International KYM Cartoon competition which is raising awareness of the refugees in this modern day and what they go through to try and live a peaceful life whilst seeking refuge in other European countries.
I chose to do really sentimental imagery to illustrate the real issues with refugees instead of painting a happy picture, I wanted to make people guilty/sad towards the images, I even personally went around and asked people to their opinions of my work to see what they felt and they all stated that the pictures made them feel emotionally connected to the caricatures but in a sad sense. The symbol below was I symbol I worked on previously on my graphics course which means to "never avoid peace, always look to make situation better by being peaceful". I created Icons using existing words to paint a picture that illustrates peace.
I personally have not many improvements for this work, it has done what I set out for it to do in that it communicates a worldly issue in its true form and does not try to avoid the issue of a world crisis and the horrors that take place. The only improvement I would say need is that my characters are all sad and the are all child like it would be more open if I was to put imagery of people all ages and not all crying in every scene because then it would be even closer to reality because it is not just only children effected by this crisis. My advise to my self when doing another competition similar to this would be to make sure that I work with a wider range of different images instead of one vain all the time, something to focus on in the future.
