My idea is to have a change of backgrounds based on the moods/emotions of a scene. I want to add this effect to the background and as part of the animation because I think it will give it some emotion and feeling. I think doing so the audience will engage more with the animation and feel, emotionally connected to the characters based on the colours. Text will be another asset I will be looking at next to make sure the fonts used suit what is being said in each scene e.g. "I HATE YOU !"-(rough looking font). The inspiration for this idea came from the Granddad animation previously show at the beginning of the of this brief when we were introduced to the concept of documentaries. The Granddad animation called "Vovo", which is a documentary of a boy talking about the memories of his grandfather and how he died. This was a great inspiration because it worked on communicating a family matter of death which is what we planned to do for our animation and introduced our group to the idea of creating an animation with words to communicate feelings and thoughts.
The background colours and scenery is being used because me and my team believe that it will help with communicate the feeling of loss along with the characters and text. The colours of the back ground will be communicating emotion through colour and effect, I like this personally like this idea because I think it has the potential to be easily animated and the idea of fonts, characters and shapes work well with one another in communicating feelings or effects.
Things I need to watch out for when developing these backgrounds would be the colours like the ones above, I think too many colours will clash and make the animated content hard to see especially if the colours of the characters or the font is the same as the back ground. I would say my goal would be to stick to only one or two colours, if I go above that, I will need to make sure the colours are completely different to the font and the characters, because with out the visuals, the animation would be boring and the audience will not be able to build up sense of what is going on.
Video Inspiration, when watching this, I just concentrate on the background, font and text:
