Windrush Research

The Empire Windrush was a German cruise ship operating by the name of Monte Rosa, that voyaged from the caribbean to London, Tilbury during the year 1948, its main purpose was to carry migrants in search of work over to Britain. It is said if it was not for the world war that the Windrush ship its self would not have made the journey, during the the world war a lot of caribbean men and women had been recruited to serve in the armed forces.

Before the Windrush embarked on its further journey to Britain it took a small stop in Bermuda to collect a few passengers before continuing. June 22nd 1948 was the day that the vessel docked at Tilbury letting off 492 passengers, this event has become a very memorable moment with in British history.
