Pattern sketches

These are 8 sketched patterns relating to the take 5 brief. I have chosen to draw very clear and colourful patterns that use colours and shapes to illustrate the feel of the sounds I am hearing and picked the sounds according to the types of pattern e.g. the dots as flashing multi coloured spots for an alarm sound to illustrate the fade and loudness of the alarm.

Evaluation 20 sec animation

Evaluation

The aim of this whole module was to produce an elemental based animation that demonstrated the 12 principles of animation. The element where; water, wind, Earth and Fire, I decided to animate wind as my concept because I wanted to create a funny and over exaggerated character that was quietly in his living, until a strong force of wind blew open his window and changed the temperature of his living space causing him to take action, he is made to walk back on forth on the scenery because the wind is so strong it keeps pushing him back causing him to result to using a plank of wood to keep it shut. I chose to do wind because I felt it would a funny and original to communicate with a twist, I thought all the other elements were not as exciting and easy to experiment with using colours and effects. I think the force of wind is a lot more easier to experiment with because there are many ways to make the wind look fierce and over exaggerate its effects to do with its force of pushing and pulling. This was one of the reasons why I decided to use it as my element because I want to see if I could make a funny animation through the use of a wind, I felt that there were a lot of ways to make this animation hilarious to my audience, mostly through how my character moves and powers through the wind, whilst all the objects behind him stand still and firm, making him look as light as a feather as he is blown back.

My animation did not turn out how I wanted it to because I underestimated the time I had to produce my animation in, also I think I gave my self too much work to do because I wanted to out line my characters on each separate frame of the 240 but only ended up drawing all the frames to go back through them all outlining my characters figure. Doing this caused me to take up two weeks extra to produce the characters finished and outlined, my original estimation was two weeks but I had run over my original estimation at four weeks. These problems resulted me in taking longer than I needed, the file of my animation was also a problem because the animation is 252 frames long because I have miss counted the frames and extended them more than I needed to so my Mac computer would not allow me to turn it into a quick time movie file leaving no option but to keep my animation a Photoshop file. The main problems I face with the play of my animation is that it is too fast and slow in certain parts because I have skipped in between movements of the characters causing it to jitter and skip, the attention to detail needs a little more consideration, I think it would have been better if I look at something real in relative to my character, scenery and objects to get a accurate size and resembling for these factors of my animation e.g. I was told that the character should not be using a mallet to hammer a nail in a window and that the character would not use that he would use an ordinary hammer, but it was too late because I had already produced to many frames for the window and the whole layer had grouped as a part of the animated sequence so to change my mistakes I would have to had deleted a vital chunk of my animation to start again close to my deadline. The size of my character is not in proportion through out because he changes size slowly begins to shrink going back and forth across the scenery because I have the drawn the characters body bigger and smaller in certain frames.

In future I feel it would be better to enlarge my characters so that they are easier to see, this way it would be a lot more clear and easier for me to keep to proportion and size because I can keep to size using animation paper because of the papers transparency which will help me keep to guide lines. My objective would be to firstly get a calendar and mark down how many days I have to work on my project and when the hand in is so I do not underestimate the time I have. The main fault I will need to take careful consideration into in the future is not having enough of the right equipment to develop my story and make sure I don’t run out, because this hindered the progression of my animation and stopped me from finishing inking of my work in the day I was supposed to finish it and I would make sure I don’t go over the correct amount of frames. I will also remember to use the correct animation paper because using the A4 paper I used was not a good idea because it moved too often causing me to draw my character in all kinds of different positions. I was also told if I produce an animation with mistakes, out line the mistakes and list them so that the mistakes are known and correctable at the time I make them which would avoid me having to go back through a whole animation from the beginning this is something I may need to consider in the future to avoid producing another fault animation.

Over all I have learnt that a lot of work needs to be put in to animation in order for it to function properly, you should never skip movements and run through every frame to ensure your movements are correct and proportion to scale is important because with out your animation does not stick to a certain size and could be seen as messy, inconsiderate and all over the place. Planning is also vital and keeps your work frame structured and doable with in the time because I will have an idea of when it should be completed e.g. Day/Month/Year. I hope all of these recognised faults will prevent me from making the same mistakes in the future.

Visual language three examples

This animation uses music and sound the view the feeling and movements of the animals and insects , they use the music to create the atmosphere and feeling of the characters e.g. the beginning when the penguins see the shark traveling towards their icicles they instantly play the jaws theme not just because it's associates to jaws as a shark but because it is a very thrilling and scary theme in aspects because it starts of low and begins to get higher the more the shark gets closer to give to the indication that the shark has almost reached its target, but its also mean't to scare to and pump up your adrenalin.Your heart rises at every beat as the sound gets louder, e.g."denden...denden...dendendendendendenden"-(jaws theme). The main thing about the jaws theme is that the tempo rises to alert you that the situation is getting tense and that the shark is getting closer to the penguins. Sounding is another way of making people aware with in a animation so that they know what is really going on.

This animation uses sounds to set the seems, all the sounds seem life like and really fit perfectly with movements, the sounds sync very well and the music fits in to scenes and gets loud when situations becomes extreme, exaggerated and live the music rises and the tempo gets faster to sync with the mood of the scene e.g. When the character swings on the door to reach the bottle the tempo gets higher and the music becomes a lot more serious and almost james Bond themed, to demonstrate that the character feels that he is on a mission to reach the bottle.

The sounding is sync to the flick off the light so when it shuts of the music is off but when the music plays it is very call along with the changes in the scene even when they are bad for instance the appear of a "monster" the sounds are in sync and keep the animation free flowing because they stay in tune with the movements. There are not many sounds in this animation compared to the other two top ones, which makes the scene very boring but works in relation to the scene and setting and story plot which does the animation justice, but could be made better with slight more sound affects in certain areas maybe sounds for the characters talking, maybe not even physically talking the creator could do a Mr bean muttering and class that as the character speaking.

I have chosen these because they demonstare good uses of sound through movements and feeling of scenery and the characters presented within those scenes. They also help demonstarte what sounds can really be used for and how they help convey a message with in a animation.

All 15 sketches

This area was very spacious that featured a lot of objects to draw, I wanted to test my self after not drawing backgrounds for so long so I decided to draw this scene from an angle so that it was in a both 2D and 3D perspective.
Another drawing of an area close by stood and drew this scenery because I felt the that the statues added a still composure and business to the scene I want people to see what was there at the time but with the use of varied and moody  colours to change the feel of the sketch.
A quick sketch of a wide open space with bus stops and large buildings. I want to get used to drawing larger spaces, this was chosen as a way of testing my skills and getting used to drawing scenery for comics, I used a blue fine liner as another for of media to give the sketch a brighter representation.
Small tunnel at the end of town a great area because of its long distance and stretch getting me use to drawing vanishing points, this was also a good area because it introduces shadow and depth. This features a lot of narrow spaces that made it challenging to draw, seeing the dark ally way just made me think about ways of presenting it in colour and appearance.
This just seemed very easy and presented 2D aspects that formed a free flowing building long ways, this was chosen mainly for the amount of black featured on the building, I wanted to see how creative I could creative by adding a little bit of depth and darkness to the image.
Main favourite area because of the bush close up and this involved me to think and experiment with my pens and colours, this was chosen for its angle and shapes plus the tree at the beginning  the scene features e.g. Circular shapes and sketched lines for the tree so I decided to different colours and forms of liner and shading to represent the elements in the sketch I did this because i felt it would make it lively and interesting in appearance.
Decided to use black fine liner to illustrate an area close to the one beneath which also seemed very abandoned, I just wanted to see what it would look like if I was to draw in just sketched black fine lines.
Area with a high representation of colour and I wanted to depict that in this sketch, the colours mainly stood out but the area was not very big and seemed abandoned.
This was a side on a building in a angle, i drew this because this was another way of testing my skill of drawing in a vanishing point, but now a feel that the image is not really clear and creative in a approach to being drawn, I could have chosen to do something else.
The was drawn mainly because of its content of a vanishing point but cars running in a long line like a never ending trail, I have never drawn cars in 3D of a vanishing point perspective especially in a line and I though this area was very good for drawing because it featured a lot of elements worth drawing close up and distance.
A very simple and straight forward sketch of a flat 2D windows of a building. I did not want to draw too many detailed drawings because they can be time consuming and this bulling seemed very nice in brick texture but simple in structure and shapes.
This space was very colour full and very effective and bright I wanted to represent that but brighter to make the sketch look more positive and bright.
Very simple scene with featured vanishing points possessed very challenging aspects but every cleverly presented using 3D aspects of distant objects and angles.
Continuous line drawing of a City scape this area was chosen mainly for its business and and the buildings involved I wanted to experiment with linier, I don't know why but the Scenery was striking almost reminded me of buildings and and landscapes from Akira the Anime, i just pictured a futuristic landscape.

Last but not least scenery from Roundhay park, decided to sketch this are because it seemed very simple and straight forward but very continuous in scenery. The trees could be drawn a lot better but detail not focused on due to really quick sketching.

Redo of window

This is the re-creation of my window with in my animation, I am currently working on making the window look like the wind has forced it open through force and have decided to introduce these for scenes at the beginning so that the window is notice able. I want my target audience to understand why the character is striving to reach the window and what the window looks like when it is opened and closed.

Noticed Problem

After seeing everybody else's animation work I have realised the problems that caused me to fumble on parts of my animation. I did my animation part digital and traditional, I thought this was a good Idea but this caused me a lot of work because I  had to reveal every movement on each and every layer of my 252 frames one by one because the back ground and characters were not together so this involved merging the two. I have now come to a decision  for the future, I will draw every thing by hand especially the character and background which would save me the hassle of having to over scan additional items and essentials objects which would make the development of my animation a lot easier and non time consuming I also think I should not under estimate my time frame for which to do my work in and develop and workable plan that helps me generate the best animation I can.

Final Crit 2

I have finally received my second round of feedback and on the whole is positive, the only points that need considering is secondary motion with the fire place in the back ground and the light does not show any signs of swinging even thought there is fierce wind blowing in the background, and there is no view of the window until it changes to first person perspective and certain frames to do with the characters movement needs adjusting. The windows need to look like they are open wide in the animation until the character shuts them.

I will sort out my fire place and add in a darker red to my orange to make it look like the fire is changing in a few frames due to the wind being really strong blowing it in the opposite direction. I am deciding to add more colour because I think the change of colour will give the fire meaning with in the scene and will make it look like it has a bit of motion going on because it is very still at the moment and needs improving because the character is the only one moving and surely the fire will be effected by a very wind. The light at the top of the scene should move because the wind is strong and it would not make sense if it stayed still making the animation not look very effective because it is not communicating what it is supposed to through the use of secondary animation. Sort out certain glitchy movements and jittering and make sure the window opens and closes while it is being hammered shut to show the force of the wind
