Very good forms of pixilation, they have considered some of the main principles, Especially the one that I like which is the bottom last video known to be a music video called Her morning elegance by Oren Lavie. This video features a lot of squashing and stretching. The middle one is food by Jan Svankmajar it involves some principles but is my least favourite and seems a bit freakish in the sense of content. The top is Mike Jittlov's speed wizard which involves a lot of zooming in and out but seems very straight forward and understandable, it was said to be aimed at the public of America for the hosting of the american olympics.

5 storyboards
Predator and prey
This is my storyboard for my pixilation film for predator and prey, I will be using a moving book as my prey and "James Beardsell" former class mate as my character and prey. (Idea) James is doing his work when the book begins to move, it attacks him and he is shacken up the whole situation. I chose to this theme because I believed I have various ideas revolved around this situation, the ideas that where developed were all funny to and strongly related to predator and prey.
Photography induction
To day I experimented with different settings on DSLR cameras in a photography tutorial. I was talked through all the basic settings on a DSLR camera, we mainly focused on shutter speed and brightness. In the following, I set up a lighting stage and took various photos using the lights and reflecting boards to high light shadows and brightness in areas of the objects I was photographing. My ISO was adjusted whilst taking these photos, this setting is based on the shutter speed, the higher the shutter the quicker the lens takes a photo and does not allow any light to pass through, the lower the shutter the slow the lens takes a photo and allows light.
Pose to pose lazy cat gif
This is my pose to pose animation called Lazy cat, I really like how my character moves, I think his movement is very flawless, like how the cat moves its eyes from side to side and I really think I have considered a few of the principles from the 12 of animation.

20 animations
Very funny and creative take on harry potter crossed with the shredder, the animating is very clean and the characters are very hilarious. The movements of both characters are very clean but, I wonder if there is anyway that they could make the mouths move a lot cleaner instead of placing card or paper illustrate the characters speaking ? This is an adult themed cartoon so It would be aimed at adults who like to stay up late watching shows.
Kim possible a classical disney cartoon turned into stop motion animation, I really like the way they have animated the characters and Kim being the agent as a really suspicious character in the search of Kim Jong un. They have a massive argument over the name Kim which gets very long winded and funny. This is an adult themed cartoon so It would be aimed at adults who like to stay up late watching shows.
Another classic on Rugrats, like the look of the characters, they look very much like the digital 2D animated characters and have the same like features, again the movements are flawless. Very funny twist on story concept the parents are more explicit with the language they use and tend to shout a lot more than they did in the 2D cartoon. This is an adult themed cartoon so It would be aimed at adults who like to stay up late watching shows.
I love the fact that Buzzlight and Woody are replicated as clones and are regarded as old, so andy sells them on ebay. Classical twist on a much loved animation, love how andy is no longer bothered about his older toys. This is an adult themed cartoon so It would be aimed at adults who like to stay up late watching shows.
Terminator as the baby is very funny, like the voicing for Arnold Schwarzenegger, very hysterical like the over dramatic scenes of Arnold Schwarzenegger being dragged across the floor with a slow truck driven by a dog. This is an adult themed cartoon so It would be aimed at adults who like to stay up late watching shows.
Over dramatic apocalyptic lego scene very funny characters, love how the zombie like lego characters are ripping each other to shreds, over dramatic and a very good animation indeed. This is an adult themed cartoon so It would be aimed at adults who like to stay up late watching shows.
RIPD animated ?, looks really cool like the short and very descriptive story the characters tell. The style of animation is very colourful and lightly contrasted. I really like this because of its use of character and the style of animation, which is ver lively and nicely coloured. This is an adult themed cartoon so It would be aimed at adults who like to stay up late watching shows.
Funny take on sailor moon, I like the how the villain is attracted to the hero, once she notices his lust for her she no longer wants to fight him because it feels awkward which is very funny, the villain is the funiest part of all because he is a dark black figure and looks very unthreatening. I really like the fact that they have lost the will to carry on as arch nemesis and hero because of one small incident. This is an adult themed cartoon so It would be aimed at adults who like to stay up late watching shows.
Robot chicken animation of the Justice League, very funny and the characters are less serious, I like how speedy is very unintelligent and does not know the naming of the parts on his bow and arrow. This is an adult themed cartoon so It would be aimed at adults who like to stay up late watching shows.
I find this spiderman lego animation very cheesy because of the way the characters speak but there are some funny scenes but overall it is alright, I would rate this 5 out of 10. I would say this animation is aimed more towards children because of its lack of humour, it does not seem like a animation and adult would watch, I think they would loose interest.
How spider man should have end seems very funny because of the use of the actual scenes from the movie in comic for, it uses satire for each scene, the way they portray the characters from the scene and the little move facts they add to make it hysterical and relative to the movie. Adult based animation with swearing involved and very random scenes something a child would not understand but and adults would find hilarious depending on if they have seen the show.
Zodiac shit is a animated music video for flying lotus, it does not tell a specific story but illustrates various scenes of characters, animals and uses various colours a calm mood along with peaceful music. I like how all the colours an scenes intertwine and change through out the video, swiftly changing from character to character, a very good animation. There would be no target audience for this video, animations are very soft and expressive the music is not explicit, so I would say it is accessible to a child but more aimed at a adult because they will be most likely to understand it.
Fight scene between electro and spiderman in the amazing spider man 2, very epic like the effects they use to make Jamie Foxx very surreal and human like as a electronic villain. This movie involves a few of the 12 principles squashing and stretching for when spiderman is swinging, anticipation for his movement and fight scenes, I would the odd easing in and out to do with his running speed especially at the end of the spiderman when he is running on top of a building for his epic jump, he will need to speed up at the beginning and slow down when he gets to the edge of the building. Amazing spiderman is a twelve so it would be aimed at children but still would appeal to adults.
Tomb raider intro trailer to the game is very smooth and detailed, like the focus on the character the appearance and complexion is very clear and deep, contrast is very good and the movements are free flowing. This has an involvement of squashing and stretching, anticipation, easing and out for movement. This game is a fifteen rated game, aimed at teenagers and adults who like to game on and may be interested in Tomb Raider.
A very funny but sometimes over violent and crazy for a kids cartoon. Features very funny aspects, love to tune in and watch this show, I really like how the character look unrealistic, very funny and appealing to kids. This animation is full of scenes that are appealing to kids but can be found violent and over offensive, If you placed this animation under adult swim, people would happily say it is and adult cartoon because of its content.
Filmore one of my favourite characters, Loved this show and found it very interesting, It was like a CSI show but in cartoon form and more revolved around small incidents in Middle school that had to be solved by a school hall patrol department. The most epic parts of the show was the chases, Filmore was like a slick solving detective, he always found the culprit, the cartoon is for kids that tune into disney channel.
Very creative technique that business people use to illustrate what they are talking about, giving piecharts and percentages, I really think the drawing and video quality is superb. I like how the characters illustrate what the man is talking about by over exaggerating facial expressions. I would say this film is directed towards people that function as part of a business or work own a business of their own because they will understand all the percentages, equations and jargon that this man is using as a form of business communication.
This is a disney animation by animator called Glen Keane's, he world on big projects with disney, especially Aladdin. I really like this short animation called "Duet" but I feel that it is not to exciting and drags on to long the baby at the start does not make to much sense and I just don't understand why it is there but the cartoon style is very good because of its flow and movement, the music could be better but its alright. The cartoon overall is really good because of its content and function, I would say that it is aimed at younger audience, especially children at the age of 5 and up.
A simple video on how to animate, a form of animation that I used to work with as a child, simple movement and structure.
Sanjay Patel is an animator for pixar who was placed on was recruited by pixar almost 14 years ago and studied at Cou Arts, Los Angeles studying animation on Walt disney's programme which was used
to train his own animators at the time. Uses mouse to draw and develop his characters digitally and works on Carstoons, the movie cars, cartoon.
Francis Glebas, is a Genius when it comes to animating, currently have one of his storyboarding books which talks you through the basics and gives you an understanding of setting and characters. He demonstrates to draw characters in into 2D figures for animating and talks you through the process of making them so they move neat and correctly. This video is all about Francis Glebas showing you how to develop perspectives, emotion and feeling of characters, he is the main animator who developed storyboarding for Aladdin, Winnie the pooh.
Cosmic Bevan a Youtuber who created a flip book animation of Goku fighting Superman in a fierce battle. This animation contains a lot of easing in and out especially when they fight really fast and knock each other back. Very well drawn characters and scenery, colours are accurate and sounds are very clear, music relates to the dragon ball fighting scene and suits the characters.
White board animation by Jonny Lawrence, this is very clever and well executed like the use of characters and the incorporated hand is really good. Jonny Lawrence draws a lot of white board designs, nothing like I have ever seen before, never would have thought about watching an animated movie on a white board, this animation involves a lot of Exaggeration, Anticipation, would say all principles of animation apply to this animation, target audience is general youtubers.
Different forms of animation notes
These are notes which were taken during my briefing on pendulum animation session, we looked at different types of animation e.g. clay painting, pin screen etc.
pixilation
pixilation animation based on "Predator and prey" brief, I decided to do a book as a predator attacking a living human being as the prey I chose to do this because I thought it would be something both funny, original and new. My video turned out too fast so I tried to slow it down, I have managed to slow down the first few scenes of my animation but the rest of the footage is too fast which is the down side to my animated because it contains a really good narrative, I think the problem was mainly because I didn't take continuous photos in stages which mean't chunks of movement were missing from the scenes. Along the way five frames were lost so everything had to be renumbered because it skipped scenes very fast. I believe now that I have identified my mistakes I will be able to produce a much better pixilation animation in the future.
Pendulum animation

This is an animation technique called pendulum which an illustrated animation which is drawn in steps, similar to squash and stretch. This technique involves a lot of precise/accurate measurement. unfortunately I am not able to upload my animated gif due to file size complications. To the left is so examples of what "pendulum" is about, the main principle of Pendulum is that the steps of the animation are marked out from 1 to 12 and is a former animated sequence to a ball swinging back and forth. my animation had a sequence of 24 frames because it involve 12 steps of swinging forward and 12 for swinging and backwards, the rule was the further you draw the frames of the ball apart the faster it swings, the closer the balls were drawn the slower the movements.

Squashing and stretching 2
Few more flips books developed for practicing squashing and stretching technique, tested my skills and developed my understanding with the technique by drawing other forms of animation other than a ball or still shaped object.

Squashing and stretching
Flip book work we did earlier in the studio, studying the 12 principles of animation and begining to understand the rule of Squashing and stretching.
Monday, 13 October 2014
The 12 basic principles of animation
1. Squash and Stretch
The squash and stretch allows the animation to be dragged out and compressed.
An object that is stretched thus become elongated but pulled.
How squashing and stretching depends on what we are squashing or moving.
Basic method, as speed increases drawings move further apart. All depends on what material you imaginate e.g. a ball being rubber, will involve more stretching and bouncing.
2. Anticipation
Communications what is going to happen. We think of things, anticipation is preparation for action.
Anticipation is always in the opposite direction to were the main action is going to go.
Any action is strengthened by being proceeded by its opposite. A-B-C, 1-2-3 only three points of action for a runner.
3. Staging
Staging, or mis-en-scene as it is known in the presentation of an idea and a clear communication to an audience.
Staying directs the audience's attention to ideas of a story being told.
You don't want a main character to be staged.
4. Straight ahead and pose to pose animation
Straight ahead animation is the process of animating frame after theme without the use of key framing.
It starts literally with the first drawing and you continue to the end of a scene.
If your not careful you could loose a sense of scale and size.
Pose to pose animation is meticulously planned and the animator works out what key posses will be needed to make an animation work. assistant will draw it out the "inbetween".
Working pose to pose means that it is easy for people to read and understand.
As there is positive and negative for both ways of working the obvious solution would be to combine both.
5. Following through and overlapping action
Essentially overlapping action and follow through are actions that happen when the main body stop, moving. either of an object or character.
Follow through of a termination of an action.
Overlapping action
This trailing behind in action is sometimes called "drag" it often gives a sense of looseness and at the same time solidity.
6. Slow-out and slow-in
Is also referred to as ease-out and ease-in.
Slow-out and slow-in
As action starts we will have more drawings at from middle to end.
7. Arcs
All actions, except perhaps some mechanical ones follow an arc of circular path.
The human figure and animals tend to follow arcs.
When considering arcs thinking out pendulum singing or the motion of your
8. Secondary action
Simply put it secondary action
e.g. over exaggeration dramatically to a situation.
9. Timing
length of production for movement of characters.
Most animations is done on twos (one drawing photographed on two frames of film).
Two are used most of the time, but ones are used during camera moves such as panning.
You also need to think about the timing of the performing of the character. Johnston and Thomas used provide this as a guide for animators.
To make the best possible animation you need to study life.
10. Exaggeration
Exaggeration is not about making something bigger, faster.
It's the subtle characterisation of expressions poses and facial features.
Exaggerating in a walk, head turn or eye movement.
11. Solid drawing
The basic principles of drawing from, weight, volume solidity and the illusion of three.
We can take solid drawing and term them into colour, movement and give characters and objects the illustrations.
Solid drawing
facilitates the emotional and the unemotional.
12. Apeal, or character personality
e.g. The incredibles 2004
Demonstrate a very lively, striking and energetic pose.

This is a primary example of a twist to Humpty Dumpty
Humpty Dumpty: UnitedWayDallas.org from Braden Bickle on Vimeo.
This is a very clever twist to Humpty Dumpty, I like how Humpty manages to land on a horse at the end and survive his fall.

Storyboard detailed
These are further developments of my story board drafts in detail. Our objective for to day was to redesign and detail our storyboards to professionally so that they were understandable to viewers. Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall; All the king's horses and all the king's men Couldn't put Humpty together again.

Watching this video has given me an idea of what it takes to storyboard well.
Storyboarding notes
Lesson Notes:
Storyboarding is a pre-production process.
It allows you to plan your animation shot by shot so that you consider composition, shot framing camera angles, camera movement, pacing and timing.
A storyboard helps the rest of production team to produce the animation or film.
Though the finished article might not be exactly the same helps the rest of the animation/film. Plus helps the director tell the story. Storyboarding is a controlled, sequential art that is concerned with depiction of a given storyline with one specific end in mind.
Story boarding is the visual shot by shot programming.
What you should consider
what is the story ?
Who are the characters ?
What do they do and what do they say ?
Composition, who is in the for, middle or background ?
Are they in conflict ?
Think about lighting ?
Camera movement ?
Detailed rendering gives an indication to what your character looks like.
Should consider what is going on in every scene.

Storyboard feedback
Storyboarding task
To day we learn't how to storyboard, we went through various research and talk through the fundamentals of animations and how they are put together in storyboard form and film storyboarding. We also referred to legendary story boarders for films e.g. "Terry Gilliam" the creator of "Monty Python", we were given a choice to pick a child nursery rhyme so we could storyboard our own version of it and add few additional part to make it your own. I chose to storyboard Humpty Dumpty, I decided to change the storyline but stuck to the plot, I wanted Humpty Dumpty to look like he was preforming stunts which later on lead to his horrific accident when he fell of the wall.
